The South Windsor Historical Society will host a family fun day at its Pleasant Valley District #5 Schoolhouse Museum, 771 Ellington Rd., South Windsor August 13, from 1 to 4 p.m. Parents are invited to bring their children to play a variety of antique games and try other activities. Refreshments will be served. Parking and admission at the museum are free; donations are welcome.
During the summer, the local history museum is open from 1 to 4 p.m., Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. Plans are also being completed for an antique sale Sept. 30.
Used as a town elementary school from 1862 to 1952, the building has been renovated and expanded by the Historical Society as a museum containing school and town memorabilia. Several recent acquisitions are on display in the lower level of the building. There is a special display of old toys and games this month. Small antique items of South Windsor significance are always welcome for display as space permits.
Among the items for sale at the museum are old South Windsor maps, cookbooks of local recipes, and schoolhouse notepaper, with proceeds are used for maintenance of the building. Memorial bricks for a walk are also being sold for $35.
Membership is open to anyone interested in South Windsor history. For more information about the museum or the Society, call 860-291-9958 or visit its website at
